Hacking group ‘Legion’, which claimed responsibility for the act, is still out of police reach but investigators suspect one of the group members to be an Indian. Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account was hacked on November 30, flooded with a series of abusive tweets. A day later, the official handle of the Congress party was hacked. According to a senior officer, the Delhi Police had written to Twitter and the ISP to get the IP log of devices and locations used to access the compromised accounts.
‘These hackers are smart. They don’t take advantage of proxies alone but also know the geo-political relationships and privacy-friendly nations to find safe havens. Tracking requires multinational coordination to draw connections between the proxies and reach out to the original source, which India lacks,’ said cyber crime expert Dhruv Soi of Torrid Networks Limited.
